Criminal Investigation
Overview
The Canyon Police Department has three highly trained officers assigned to Criminal Investigation. The Criminal Investigators are responsible to conduct follow-up criminal investigations concerning unsolved or major criminal cases. Criminal investigations are simply an extension of the patrol functions. The investigators work closely with patrol to address agency goals and objectives.
The basic goal and objective of any criminal investigation is to determine if a crime has been committed and identify and arrest the offender. Agency investigators pursue long-term criminal investigations or follow-up investigations where time or expertise is required.
The investigators time is consumed interviewing victims and witnesses and interrogating suspects. Property crimes of burglary and theft are our most prevalent crimes. Investigators spend a lot of time investigating forgeries, embezzlement's, identity thefts, home burglaries, auto burglaries and sexual abuse cases mainly involving children.

Amarillo Crime Stoppers
The Detectives with the Canyon Police Department work closely with Amarillo Crime Stoppers. We encourage anyone having information on a crime in Canyon or Amarillo to call (806) 374-4400 to report the information. If the information leads to an arrest, Crime Stoppers will pay cash reward of up to $1000.
