The City of Canyon will be performing its annual street sealcoating program the week of August 3 - 7 or August 10 - 14, 2015. The current program allows us to
sealcoat all paved streets in the City every seven years. Sealcoating is a process of applying a layer of molten asphalt on the existing roadway, and then applying a layer of crushed stone and rolling it into the asphalt. Sealcoating provides three things: It seals cracks in the existing pavement, it provides an improved wearing surface, and adds life to the existing roadway. Only existing paved streets will be sealcoated.
The City respectfully requests that all residents within this year’s sealcoating area keep their vehicles parked off of the street, so that the pavement can be satisfactorily cleaned and treated with the sealcoat.
We also request that caution be used around the sealcoating construction. Heavy trucks and equipment are involved that can stop and change directions without much warning. The contractor will be providing flagmen to assist with traffic control. Please use caution when in the construction area and cooperate with their directions. Also, molten asphalt is applied between 325º F and 375º F. Please keep children and pets away from the roadway until the rolling operations are complete.
The area to be sealcoated this year is generally described as follows: Paved city streets from 23rd Street to 28th Street including the Avenues from Russell Long Blvd. to 14th Avenue.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Public Works Department at 655-5011 or the Street and Solid Waste Division at 655-5028.
The City of Canyon appreciates your cooperation during this construction and apologizes for the inconvenience.
